There are many boating accidents in Florida each year

In order to ensure everyone's safety, it is important that boaters obey the rules and watch out for the other boats on the water. But, as people are aware, not every boater does this and as a result there are boating accidents. Unfortunately, many people are injured in these boating accidents as well.

In 2016, there were a total of 714 reportable boating accidents in Florida and, as a result, 421 people were injured and 67 were killed. These accidents also resulted in $10,052,495 in property damage. The most accidents occurred in the months of May, June and July, which are just around the corner, during the hours of noon and 6:00 pm. The main causes of these accidents were excessive speed, inexperienced drivers and the most common was inattention or not having a proper look-out.

The statistics demonstrate that many people are affected by these boating accidents, both physically and financially. There is clearly a lot of property damage due to these accidents, but the victims who are injured may also incur significant medical bills and may lose income if they are unable to work. The physical problems will take time to fully heal, but the victims may be able to rectify the financial issues by holding the boater who caused the accident accountable and obtain compensation for the medical bills, lost wages and other damages associated with the accident.

After a boating accident in Florida, the victims first need to focus on receiving the medical attention needed to help them recover. However, after that has been accomplished, the next task may be obtaining the compensation they deserve. However, these can be complicated matters and insurance companies may try minimizing the damages to lower their costs. Experienced attorneys understand the importance of the compensation and may be able to help protect one's rights.
